Milestone: Kennet

Milestone: Kennet was released on 8 October 2022. Significant changes are as follows:

Filestore previews for more file types
Previously, it was possible to view some file formats, mostly pictures, in the Filestore without downloading the files. This has now been extended to more file types such as videos, audio, text and PDFs, depending on browser support. This should make it possible to view .pdf files from the Filestore on Chromebooks, for example.

Filestore search facility
It is now possible to search the entire filestore by entering part of their name or description. This does not return secrets or search the contents of files. You can also search for multiple words by joining them with “and”.

Simple Version has increased access features
As a step towards improving the accessibility of Three Rings features, it is now possible to access more features in the ‘Simple Version’.

New Stats > Volunteer Hours report
This report shows how volunteers’ efforts, in selected rotas, are distributed by hour across the day. It includes all volunteers signed up for shifts but excludes volunteers signed up for shifts that have been Closed.

Accessibility changes
We have been working with The Shaw Trust to improve the experience of volunteers using screen readers to access Three Rings. This is ongoing work and, though it doesn’t make hugely visible changes for most volunteers it should result in a more consistent ‘look and feel’. We are now documenting this work in our Accessibility Statement, which we are publishing as part of this release.

Bug Fixes and background improvements
A number of minor bug fixes have been included together with updated versions of underlying software in order to improve overall security.
