What you’ll get out of it

Three Rings is used by everyone from Samaritans and libraries to theatres and museums – as part of our team, you’ll be helping thousands of others to give their time to the causes they care about.

The kind of direct customer support and representation skills you build on the Support Team are vital in any number of professional roles; as a volunteer, you’ll not only be able to boost your CV, but we’re always happy to give references when you need them.

Last but not least, you’ll get the chance to be a part of the wider Three Rings volunteer community! We have an active Slack group, where we have regular optional Sunday night slack socials. We also have an annual Christmas party (with +1 invitations), and we invite all volunteers to the annual AGM too.

  • Three Rings is a great organisation to be a part of, and I love volunteering with like-minded people. It feels good to support hundreds of voluntary organisations operating across the UK.

    Geoff, Head of Support

What the role involves

As a volunteer on our Support team you’d be helping put a friendly face on our service and, working with a mentor, answer any questions our users might have about the system.

Responding to support requests

Using our customer support system volunteers will respond to user queries; guiding them through various issues such as lost passwords, use of the Three Rings system, and locating information in the Three Rings Help pages.

Ensuring queries reach the relevant departments

The support inbox is the primary point of contact for Three Rings queries, not all queries are for the support department; it is the role of support volunteers to ensure that these queries reach the correct departments.

Using an appropriate tone

Three Rings CIC tries hard to put a friendly face on IT: new members of the support team are encouraged to adopt the ‘house style’ of writing in a semi-formal, natural, tone rather than relying on formulaic and formal language.

Maintaining confidentiality

A number of services benefiting from Three Rings store sensitive data on the system. All volunteers are required to sign an NDA, and are expected to treat any information they access as part of their volunteering with Three Rings as strictly confidential.

Support and training

A mentoring relationship

New volunteers are assigned a mentor to guide them through the training process,  and help them build the skills they need.

Annual Support Camp

Three Rings holds an annual support camp open to all of the support volunteers. The camp is a weekend of ongoing training and discussions about the support team with some social activities mixed in as well. Three Rings covers all costs for the weekend so our volunteers are not out of pocket.

Personal Development

Three Rings CIC has a  volunteer  development  budget  which  can  help  pay  for conferences and training relevant to your role with us.
